Advanced Electric/Hydraulic Spreader Control: Precision, Efficiency, and Durability

The Electric/Hydraulic Spreader Control system represents a significant advancement in material spreading technology, offering unparalleled precision, operational efficiency, and a robust design engineered for the most demanding applications. Designed by Buyers Products, this system integrates state-of-the-art electric control with high-performance hydraulic components to deliver superior spreading capabilities for a variety of granular and liquid materials.

Revolutionizing Spreader Operations with Electric Control

Traditional hydraulic control systems often necessitate bulky hydraulic lines and manual levers within the vehicle cab, leading to cluttered workspaces and less intuitive operation. The Electric/Hydraulic Spreader Control mitigates these issues by relocating the complex hydraulic valving to a weather-protective enclosure, typically mounted externally on the vehicle chassis. This design philosophy dramatically simplifies the in-cab environment, replacing mechanical linkages with an ergonomic, user-friendly electronic interface. The result is a cleaner cab, reduced operator fatigue, and enhanced control responsiveness. The shift to electric control not only improves the aesthetics and ergonomics but also streamlines installation and maintenance processes, reducing potential points of failure associated with extended hydraulic lines entering the cabin.

Proportional Spreader Operation: The Core of Precision

At the heart of this system lies its proportional control capability. Unlike conventional on/off or stepped hydraulic systems, proportional control allows for continuous, infinitely variable adjustment of hydraulic flow to the spinner and auger/conveyor mechanisms. This precise modulation translates directly into accurate and consistent material application rates. For the spinner, a 0-7 GPM (Gallons Per Minute) range ensures the ability to fine-tune the spread pattern and width, from a narrow, focused application to a wide, even disbursement, accommodating varying road widths and environmental conditions. The auger/conveyor, operating within a 0-15 GPM range, provides granular control over the material feed rate, ensuring that the desired quantity of material (e.g., salt, sand, gravel, fertilizer) is delivered consistently to the spinner or directly onto the surface. This level of control is critical for optimizing material usage, preventing over-application, and achieving uniform coverage, which are paramount for effective de-icing, dust suppression, or agricultural seeding.

Comprehensive System Architecture and Models

The Buyers Products Electric/Hydraulic Spreader Control system is available in several configurations to meet diverse operational requirements. All models share core features designed for durability and performance: proportional valves housed in a weather-protective enclosure and a weatherproof, corrosion-free wiring harness. These components are rigorously tested to withstand the harsh environments typical of winter maintenance, including exposure to salt, moisture, extreme temperatures, and vibrations.

HV715EPG/HV1030EPG: The 3-Function Controller with GPS Capability

For applications demanding the highest level of precision and functionality, the HV715EPG and HV1030EPG models offer a 3-function controller with an intuitive LED display. These units control the spinner, auger/conveyor, and an electric pre-wet system. The inclusion of electric pre-wet controls is a significant advantage, allowing for the precise application of brine or other liquids to dry granular materials before spreading. This pre-wetting process significantly enhances the effectiveness of de-icing agents by promoting faster activation and better adhesion to surfaces, reducing bounce and scatter. The "G" in the model number denotes compatibility with an optional Garmin GPS receiver, unlocking advanced, speed-proportional spreading capabilities. These models are available in variants to cater to higher or lower GPM requirements, ensuring optimal performance across different hydraulic setups.

HV715EP/HV1030EP: The 12V Programmable Controller

For operations primarily focused on auger/conveyor and spinner control without the need for pre-wet or GPS integration, the HV715EP and HV1030EP models provide a robust 12V programmable controller with an LED display. These controllers offer the same high level of proportional control over material feed and spread pattern, ensuring efficient and effective spreading. While not equipped for GPS, their programmable nature allows operators to set and store preferred spreading parameters, facilitating consistent application across various tasks. Like their GPS-capable counterparts, these models also come in versions for different GPM needs, ensuring compatibility and peak performance with your existing hydraulic systems.

Unlocking Precision with GPS Integration (HV715EPG/HV1030EPG)

The optional Garmin GPS receiver, a hallmark of the HV715EPG/HV1030EPG models, elevates spreading precision to an unprecedented level. This feature integrates the vehicle's speed data directly into the spreading algorithm. By continuously calculating vehicle velocity, the system dynamically adjusts the hydraulic flow rates to the spinner and auger/conveyor. This means that as the vehicle speeds up, the system automatically increases material output, and conversely, as it slows down, output is reduced. The primary benefit of speed-proportional control is the maintenance of a consistent application rate (e.g., pounds per lane mile or grams per square meter) regardless of changes in vehicle speed. This eliminates material waste from over-application at slower speeds and ensures adequate coverage at higher speeds. The GPS unit plugs in easily, making installation straightforward on any truck. Beyond material savings, GPS integration contributes to:

  • Cost Reduction: Significant savings on expensive spreading materials and reduced fuel consumption by optimizing spread patterns and preventing re-work.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Minimizing the environmental impact of de-icing chemicals or fertilizers by applying only the necessary amounts.
  • Enhanced Safety: Consistent and effective de-icing leads to safer roads for the public and reduced liability for municipalities and contractors.
  • Data Logging and Accountability: GPS systems often provide data logging capabilities, allowing for detailed records of material usage, routes, and application rates. This data is invaluable for reporting, auditing, and operational analysis, offering insights into efficiency improvements and compliance with environmental regulations.

Hydraulic System Specifications and Engineering

The hydraulic components of this control system are designed for reliability and optimal performance. The system operates on a fixed displacement principle, ensuring consistent hydraulic power delivery. Key specifications include:

  • Auger/Chain Flow Rate Max: Up to 15 GPM (57.5 LPM), providing ample power for various material densities and feed rates.
